Four arrested in local illegal tobacco blitz

Four people including a teenager have been arrested after around $400k worth of illegal tobacco was seized in Geelong and Corio.

Local police and detectives searched six local businesses on Wednesday where illegal tobacco was allegedly being sold.

The shops were on Kosciusko and Detroit Ave in Corio, Separation St in Bell Park, Peter St in Grovedale, Wilsons Rd in Whittington and Church St in Herne Hill.

One of the shops was the target of an attempted arson attack in 2023.

Police say around 320-thousand sticks of illicit tobacco, over 23-thousand vapes 18.5kg of loose tobacco and $13k cash was seized as part of the investigation.

A 50-year-old Lara woman, a 58-year-old Corio woman, a 41-year-old Tarneit man and a 19-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman were all arrested and slapped with a range of charges.

he investigation remains ongoing, and several people will be spoken to in due course.
