Parts of our region could be at an increased risk of bushfire this summer.
Authorities have released their latest bushfire outlook, which shows an increased risk of fire in the south-west.
Brendan Lawson from Geelong’s CFA says they’re expecting an earlier start to the fire season in our region.
“We’re probably expecting a higher than average season,” he said.
“But there is a lot to unfold. It will largely depend on what happens in terms of spring rainfall.”
With the possibility of fires, Lawson says says now’s the time for locals to make sure their fire plans are up to date.
“Start preparing now,” he said.
“You should go in with the mindset that with how the weather sits right now, we are expecting that earlier start.
“While it may not play out like that, it’s a good mindset to have as it means you are preparing earlier so if it does play out like that, you’re definitely prepared for it.”
