Geelong’s Christmas Opening Night featuring Denis Walter will be moved to The Arena due to the anticipated wet weather on Saturday.

The City of Greater Geelong announced on Friday afternoon the event will be relocated to the North Geelong venue, with the lighting of the Christmas tree to be live streamed online.

It follows a trend of unlucky weather conditions spoiling Geelong’s Christmas celebrations, after last years event was cancelled altogether due to rain.

The Weather Bureau’s updated forecast has Geelong heading for a top of 21 degrees for Saturday, with three to 20mm of rain forecast along with the chance of a thunderstorm.

The City’s advising that the event featuring carols by Denis Walter will now be ticketed, with tickets available online for free although attendance will be limited.

A total of 860 general admission tickets and 20 accessible tickets will be available for indoor entry.

The lighting of the Christmas tree will still go ahead at 9:15pm and be streamed online and shown at The Arena.

Doors will open from 5pm, with pre-show entertainment to start at 6.30pm, ahead of Denis Walter taking the stage at around 8pm.
