A Mount Duneed man is facing multiple charges over a deadly collision at Winchelsea that claimed one woman’s life and left another in hospital.
A 55-year-old woman from Deans Marsh died when the Toyota Avalon she was driving collided head-on with a Volkswagen Passat, on the Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road just after 10pm on Saturday.
Her 25-year-old female passenger, also from Deans Marsh, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 31-year-old man from Mount Duneed, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
He has since been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, and dangerous driving causing serious injury, and is due to face Geelong Magistrates’ Court today.
The fatality was one of three on Victorian roads over the long weekend.
Earlier on Saturday a man was killed when the car he was driving ran off a road and struck a tree at Picola, northeast of Echuca.
He is yet to be identified.
On Monday night a 15-year-old boy died when his bicycle collided with a car at Knoxfield, in Melbourne’s outer east.
The female driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation.
56 lives have been lost on Victorian roads so far this year, 11 fewer than at this time in 2023.
Anyone who has information or dash-cam footage of any of the weekend accidents is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
