Just over half of City of Greater Geelong staff have agreed to a new pay deal.

It will see employees entitled to a three per cent pay rise over the next three years, along with other benefits.

More than 1500 workers participated in a vote over the last week, with 51.8 per cent saying yes.

However, it is understood hundreds of staff members aligned with the Australian Services Union were against the new deal.

Council CEO Ali Wastie acknowledged the outcome was close due to a ‘no’ campaign by the union.

“We continue to be optimistic about working consultatively with employees and their representatives over the lifetime of the new agreement,” she said.

“We have a strong relationship with our workforce and union representatives, which means we’re in constant communication about how we can make our workplaces the best they can be – this will continue for the duration of our new agreement.”
