Cricket has never been an exact science – until now that is.
Lara Secondary College will next year introduce cricket as a subject on the school’s curriculum, allowing studies in not only game play but the academics behind it.
Victorian skipper Will Sutherland says it’s an exciting opportunity for students.
“I know this is something I would have loved if I was at school,” he says.
“It’s really exciting to have this opportunity to get people even more involved in the sport of cricket.”
Lara Secondary College Principal Luke Skewes said it was an exciting opportunity for the school.
“At Lara Secondary College we are incredibly proud to be partnering with Cricket Victoria and Academy Movement to provide a Cricket Academy that will allow students to access high level coaching while receiving a first-class education,” he said.
“We look forward to providing our students the opportunity to engage in their passion for cricket within the curriculum, while opening positive pathways for them to pursue.”
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said it would be an excellent addition to the school.
“We’re excited to see cricket come into the classroom and see the new cricket academy evolve at Lara Secondary College,” Cummins said.
“The broader Geelong region is a significant growth area for Victorian cricket. We have surging participation, strong clubs and opportunities like this allow us to connect students to cricket at a critical point in their lives – at school.”
