Some of the Geelong region’s crumbling roads are set to be included in a maintenance blitz.
The Victorian government is launching a nine-month program, worth almost $1 billion, to fix up potholes and repair and resurface roads.
The Princes and Surf Coast Highways will be included. along with works on the Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road.
Victorian Roads Minister Melissa Horne said 70 per cent of the funds would go towards regional Victoria.
“It’s going to be spent on rebuilding, repairing and resurfacing our roads,” she said.
“We know they’ve copped a beating over the last couple of years with floods, that have affected so many of our roads.
“So now, with warmer drier seasons, we can get our crews out there.”
However the Victorian opposition claims it is not new money and was provided in the state budget.
It says the funding is 16 per cent less than four years ago.
