Patrick Dangerfield has stepped down as President of the AFL Players’ Association, making the announcement following the AFLPA Annual General Meeting on Tuesday.
The Geelong skipper is the equal second longest-serving President, having been first elected to the role in 2018.
He has served on the board since 2014, and will remain on the board despite surrendering the presidency.
Collingwood captain Darcy Moore was elected as the players’ new President after spending the past year in the role as Co-Vice President.
“It’s been a great honour to serve the players as their President, and advocate on issues important to them,” Dangerfield said.
“There has been a lot of change since beginning in this role in 2018, and I’m proud of what we – as a playing group, Board and Association – have achieved, from steering and supporting the players through COVID, to the growth of AFLW, and our landmark joint CBA.
“I’m thrilled to hand the reins over to Darcy, who is a passionate and respected leader within the AFLPA and the wider industry.
“The players are in safe hands.”
