A man who led police on a chase across several Geelong suburbs and nearly hit a cyclist on Tuesday morning has been slapped with dozens of charges.

A 28-year-old Mount Martha man was followed though the Thompson, Newcomb, Leopold and Moolap areas in an allegedly stolen truck.

The vehicle reportedly evaded police when they tried to intercept it on Barwon Heads Road in Thompson, while police believe the white truck almost hit a cyclist on Kensington Road, near the Bellarine Rail Trail in Leopold during the incident.

The driver allegedly continued driving dangerously before stop sticks were successfully deployed twice by police on both Boundary Road in Newcomb and Portarlington Road.

The man was arrested in the Newcomb area and has since been charged with 43 offences including burglary, theft and dangerous driving charges.

He was remanded in custody to appear before the Geelong Magistrates’ Court as the investigation continues.
