Drink driver caught almost seven times the legal limit

Police have caught a driver after a collision in Hoppers Crossing, alleged to have blown almost seven times the legal limit on a breath test.

Police responded to a collision between a silver Mazda and a ute on the Princes Freeway around 11.20pm on Saturday night.

The Mazda then crashed into a pole, and while the vehicle copped extensive damage, there were no serious injuries.

The 29-year-old Weir Views man behind the wheel allegedly returned a positive result during a preliminary breath test at the scene.

He then underwent an evidentiary breath test at the police station, the result of that said to 0.326.

Police said the man is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences and driving while disqualified.
