Two local seats are shaping as major battlegrounds heading into this weeks federal election.

Incumbent Corangamite MP Libby Coker will look to hold off Liberal candidate Darcy Dunstan for the seat, while Dan Tehan looks set for a close margin against independent Alex Dyson.

Exit polling conducted by NewsCorp last week saw a considerable swing in favour of Dunstan in terms of first preference voting.

YouGov’s last projection had Coker retaining the seat, despite a 2% swing in favour of the Liberals.

Corangamite has been a favourite of both parties in terms of pledges, with the combined total pledged so far closing in on $40 million.

Among those promises is a commitment from both parties to contribute $5 million towards the redevelopment of the Devlins Reserve.

Both parties have promised funding towards local sporting clubs, with health services and community reserves also set to benefit.

YouGov last month predicted that independent Alex Dyson was in a position to unset Dan Tehan from Wanon.

The projection showed a two-party preferred 4.5% swing in favour of Dyson, which would see him claim the seat by just over a per cent.

More than $60 million has been committed by major parties towards projects across the Corangamite, Corio, Wannon and Lalor electorates for this years election.

Deputy PM Richard Marles is expected to retain Corio, while Lalor MP Joanne Ryan is also expected to retain her seat.

The latest Newspoll has the ALP leading 52-48 on 2PP with the final week of campaigning beginning this morning.
