The expansion of Werribee Mercy Hospital’s emergency department has officially begun.
The first sod on the project was turned yesterday, beginning the project that will double the capacity of the emergency ward.
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas said it was an important improvement for the region.
“We’re upgrading the emergency department at the Werribee Mercy Hospital – so more locals can get the care they need, close to home in world-class facilities,” she said.
“By doubling the treatment spaces, this project will also help to alleviate pressure on busy, nearby emergency departments and make it easier for ambulances to get back on the road.”
