Geelong’s council wants to see a tourism boost to north Geelong by leasing part of Seagull Paddock.

The council pointing to the proximity to Spirit of Tasmania quay as an added benefit to an operator if they wanted to take on the project.

Council is opening expressions of interest to the tourism sector to lease some of the land.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj said a project on the land could cause a significant increase in local tourism.

“Our Sustainable Destination Master Plan (SDMP) says we need to do more to enhance tourism opportunities around the Spirit of Tasmania and in Geelong’s north, so we’re getting on with it through this EOI process,” he said.

“Seagull Paddock is in an incredible location with strong tourism potential for the right operator.”

Cr. Trent Sullivan said operators should consider making an EOI.

“We look forward to receiving some really good submissions, and we can’t wait to see the potential of this site realised.”
