Barwon Water are urging locals to be careful with what the flush down the toilet after having to remove a “fatberg” from the sewage system after it caused a sewer to spill.
The spill took place at the Macintyre Bridge in Newtown on Thursday.
The item was made up of a number of items that won’t break down in the sewerage system, including tissues and baby wipes.
it’s the second one to be removed this year, after another was removed from Bellarine Street earlier this year.
“These unsightly sewer blockers are caused by a buildup of non-flushable wipes, oils, nappies and other things that should never be flushed,” a social media post said.
“Anything else should go in the bin.”
