A local organisation had had Victorian government funding pulled for its Disability Support Fund (DSF).
Barwon Disability Resource Council says it has been operating the fund since 1995, providing funding grants to more than 10,000 applicants with mental health conditions.
The Council says those recipients have relied on the funding for qualifications, joining a gym, sporting or community group or getting repairs to vehicles.
Council Executive Officer David Petherick said the government had advised it would no longer provide money for the fund.
“We are very concerned that this decision will have a significant detrimental impact on the mental health of many people in the Region,” he wrote on the Fund’s website.
“The DSF has undoubtedly supported their mental wellbeing through their engagement and inclusion in their local communities.”
He called on the Victorian government to reverse the decision and restored funding.
