Locals are being encouraged to join in the celebrations for the opening of the Geelong Animal Welfare Society op-shop.
While the store officially opened last month, a special celebration will be held on Feb 11.
The proceeds from sales at the shop going to helping GAWS care for its animals.
GAWS CEO Helen Cocks says it’s exciting to open the new store after moving from Hamlyn Heights.
“We encourage the local community, our loyal customers, pre-loved goods bargain hunters and those who are passionate about supporting animal welfare to come explore the new store and enjoy a free coffee,” she said.
“Last year, GAWS had 3383 animals come into our care, with many in our shelter for a long period of time.
“It costs approximately $65 a day to care for one animal in shelter, providing vital services and
essentials as we prepare them for rehoming including meals, veterinary care and enrichment.
“Our shelter doesn’t receive government funding. We rely on donations and support from our
community to continue our vital work.
“All profits from the GAWS Op Shop go directly towards supporting the animals in our care. Every purchase from our Op Shop helps.”
The event will be held at the GAWS op-shop at 50 Watsons Road between 11am and 12 noon.
