Bellarine local Mitch Pope has been announced at the Greens candidate for the marginal seat of Corangamite at this year’s federal election.
The seat is currently held by Labor’s Libby Coker.
Mitch said the cost of living crisis was a key concern, but was motivated to run in the election over the government’s lack of climate action.
“Corangamite being a marginal electorate will hopefully push what I’m pushing for on climate into the conversation,” he said.
“So I’m hoping both major parties will see this as a concern and be prepared to take stronger action.”
The party has also announced Emilie Flynn will be standing in the seat of Corio, which is held by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles.
Emilie said one of her biggest concerns was housing.
“Housing is a human right, not a commodity for profit, and it’s time our policies reflected that,” she said.
“No one in a country as wealthy as Australia should have to skip meals or avoid medical care because they can’t afford it.”
The election is expected to be held in May.
