Shadow Minister for Tourism, Sport and Events, Sam Groth said Geelong locals aren’t clear yet on how critical infrastructure will be delivered across the region.
“Their concerns are not necessarily about the delivery of the Games, I think we all believe the Games will be delivered,” he said.
“But the idea of these Games was that they would leave that legacy, there’s concerns around what that legacy looks like.
“There’s concerns that the legacy will possibly be put back onto the ratepayer, to local council’s to deliver some of those projects long term.”

Mr. Groth also wants to see broader infrastructure projects delivered for the region post the 2026 event.
He raised the issues of mobile blackspots remaining along the V/Line corridor to Geelong, and is concerned that work is yet to begin on remediating toxic soil at Athletes’ Village sites.
