Local streets are set to have ghosts, goblins and witches later today as kids and adults prepare for Halloween.
Houses across Greater Geelong have been decorated, preparing to welcome trick or treaters.
However, we are also being reminded to keep an eye on our pets, who may try to sneak a chocolate or lolly from the goody bag.
Dr Julia Ferguson from Lara Pet Hospital said chocolate can be deadly four dogs.
“Certainly I recommend parents ask their children to put their bags up and out of reach if they can,” she said.
However, dog owners worried about their four-legged friends were being urged to call their vet if they thought dogs may have eaten chocolate.
Dr Ferguson said lollipop sticks and wrappers could also be a hazard and urged pet owners to get their dogs to the vet.
“If they have eaten them in a reasonably short period before they present to a vet, it’ll often lead to them being made to vomit.
“They can hopefully bring all that stuff up and not cause a problem.”
