Former Geelong councillor Sarah Hathway is set to run for federal parliament.
Hathway, who represented the Windemere ward between 2023 and 2024, has announce she will run in the Corio electorate as a member of the Socialist Alliance.
She said community activists were needed to stand up to the two-party system.
“I am sick of hearing from politicians like Richard Marles who are committed to jobs in weapons manufacturing, while people in this electorate continue to struggle day to day due to lack of affordable housing and cost of living pressures,” she said.
“The focus on weapons and war is out of touch and fails to meet the needs of people in this community.”
Current member for Corio and Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has held the seat since 2007, and won the 2022 poll by around 25 per cent of the vote.
