Homicide squad detectives have been called following the death of a man in a Geelong hotel late on Wednesday night.
It’s believed man was found in a room at the Sir Charles Hotham Hotel on Brougham Street around 11.50pm, dying at the scene.
It’s believed the man in his 80s was assaulted by a man in his 30s, who left before officers arrived.
“Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said in a statement.
“The area has been cordoned off and a crime scene established. Officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit will also attend the scene.
“A search is currently underway to locate the other man involved.
“At this stage the incident appears isolated and involves people known to one another.”

The hotel was the scene of an alleged murder in 2011, where a man aged in his 50’s was found dead at a nearby service centre on Cavendish Street.
A 45-year-old man was charged with murder following that incident, he was staying with the victim at the Sir Charles Hotham Hotel at the time of the death.
