A pilot remains in hospital recovering from a horror crash, as the Avalon International Airshow celebrates an otherwise triumphant week.

Glenn Collins was critically injured during the accident on Friday afternoon, spending the weekend in hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The veteran pilot aged in his 50s, suffered serious spinal and pelvic injuries, and was flown to The Alfred Hospital.

“While we celebrate this event, we also take a moment to acknowledge the aircraft incident that occurred on Friday,” a statement from organisers said.

“Our thoughts are with Glenn Collins, his team, and his family during this difficult time.”

More than 200,000 attendances over the six days of the event, including a record-breaking 60,000 attendances over the dedicated Trade Day sessions.

“Avalon 2025 was all about engagement between industry, defence, the aviation and aerospace community and the general public,” CEO Justin Giddings said.

“Feedback from our exhibitors and Air Force is that once again the airshow achieved this with flying colours, including the largest industry presence we have ever had at the event.

“In aviation and aerospace we are always trying to attract the next generation of innovators, and one of the great experiences of this event was seeing thousands of students learning about how aviation and aerospace can offer exciting and rewarding careers.

“We look forward to returning in 2027, to again deliver one of the world’s great airshows, for industry and the Australian public.”
