City of Greater Geelong has voted in favour of acknowledging January 26 as Australia Day.
In a fiery meeting last night, the motion presented by Eddy Kontel.
Kontel put forward the motion, with former mayor Trent Sullivan seconding it.

The motion would eventually pass council with a seven to four vote.
The controversial issue led to a full public gallery for last nights meeting, as well as a number of attendees taking to the steps to rally before the vote.
Council will now receive a report on the future of January 26, which will be tabled next month.
