Labor will narrowly hold onto the seat of Werribee, claiming victory in the by-election by just a few hundred votes.
The seat has been called by incumbent member John Lister over the Liberal Party’s candidate Steve Murphy, but Labor has suffered a primary swing of 16.6 per cent against it.
The Liberal’s increased its vote share in the electorate 3.6 per cent, while support also increased for the minor parties and independents.

The Werribee by-election came about following the retirement of ex-Treasurer Tim Pallas late last year, who represented the electorate of Tarneit until 2014 and Werribee thereafter.
