Man arrested after dramatic chase in Geelong’s north

A man has been arrested after allegedly tried to run off on police into the ocean, following a crash in Norlane on Wednesday morning involving a young child.

Officers say they spotted the black Holden Commodore driving erratically on Gerbera Avenue just before 10am, it’s understood a 25-year-old man was behind the wheel with a six-year-old in the car.

Police lost site of the car but it was found a few minutes later crashed into a tree on The Esplanade in North Shore, with the driver seen fleeing into nearby waters.

The 25-year-old was arrested not long after, when he eventually swam to shore.

The child was found still inside the car and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Anglesea man was charged with multiple offences including drive in a manner dangerous and careless driving.

He was remanded to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court.
