One man has died and two others are in hospital after a drowning tragedy on the Great Ocean Road.
The trio were swimming at Marengo yesterday afternoon when they got into trouble just after 1pm.
In an extraordinary act of heroism, a woman who had been walking by managed to drag all three unconscious men onto the beach, where other bystanders conducted CPR until emergency services arrived.
Sadly, one of the men died at the scene.
A 23-year-old man was taken to University Hospital Geelong in a critical condition while a second man, also in his 20s, was flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
The men have not yet been formally identified.
26 people have died on Victorian beaches since the start of December, including a man who drowned at Anglesea on New Year’s Day and another at Barwon Heads at the start of February.
