A man in his 70’s is in a critical condition after a scary incident at Torquay’s main beach.
It’s understood passers-by heard someone calling for help from the water just before 9am on Tuesday and called the triple-zero (000) emergency hotline.
Witnesses have told the Geelong Broadcasters newsroom they saw a person lying on the sand with paramedics performing CPR.
Police believe the 76-year-old suffered a medical episode and was unresponsive, with paramedics performing CPR after he was pulled from the water.
Ambulance Victoria has confirmed they attended a ‘water incident’ at The Esplanade.
“A man has been taken to University Hospital Geelong in a critical condition,” a spokesperson said.
