The Northern Aquatic and Community Hub has a new name.
The new facility – which cost more than 65 million dollars – has been named Norlane Aquatic Recreation Centre.
The pool hall is set to draw from the history of the area, taking the name Waterworld used for the former aquatic centre.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said it was a community based decision.
“We’ve arrived at a good solution with Norlane ARC (Aquatic Recreation Centre) as the overall name of the centre, and the popular ‘Waterworld’ living on as the name of the pool hall,” Mayor Sullivan said.
“We also appreciate the suggestion for the community hall within the facility to have a name that reflects First Nations heritage and we look forward to that process running its course.”
