Police are investigating another assault on a staff member at Barwon prison.
The victim – believed to be a supervisor at the maximum security jail – was allegedly attacked and spat on during the violent incident on September 9, according to a report in the Geelong Advertiser.
The paper says the attack took place in the Diosma unit, a ‘mainstream’ section of the prison which is used to house inmates who are serving shorter sentences.
It’s the latest in a long list of assaults on staff and inmates, including the murder of notorious criminal Carl Williams and the near-fatal stabbing of former drug lord Tony Mokbel.
A spokesperson for Corrections Victoria told the Advertiser a staff member was treated on-site.
“The safety and well-being of staff is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
It’s understood police are investigating.
