A man has been tragically killed less than a week before Christmas, following a crash in Mount Moriac late on Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the Cape Otway Road intersection of the Princes Hwy around 11.45am, following reports of a collision between a Mazda CX5 and a Toyota Landcruiser.

Tragically, a male passenger of the Mazda, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

Another four people have been taken to hospital, including another passenger of the Mazda who has been flown to the Alfred in Melbourne with serious injuries.

The driver and a fourth passenger of the Mazda have been taken by road to Geelong, where the driver remains under police guard.

The sole occupant of the Toyota was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Princes Hwy has been closed Geelong-bound, with Transport Victoria expecting the closure to be in place through most of the afternoon.

“With this closure in place, obviously a detour is required so do take the time to take Winchelsea-Inverleigh Road back to the Hamilton Highway, that will get you around its,” spokesperson Chris Miller said.

“Unfortunately this closure is likely to be in place for a couple of hours.”

Meantime two people were taken to hospital following a collision on the Geelong Ring Road in Highton about an hour earlier.

The pair were taken by road to Geelong University Hospital after the crash around 10.45am, with traffic banking heading towards Melbourne.
