The mother of a convicted murderer set to undergo IVF treatment in prison says she won’t raise the baby.
Alicia Schiller is serving 16-years jail for fatally stabbing her female housemate in Norlane in 2014.
Schiller has been approved to undergo the self-funded treatment, and will be escorted to health appointments.
She told authorities the baby could live with her mother once it turned five.
However, lawyers representing Schiller’s mother have told the Herald Sun she would not raise the baby if IVF was successful.
Meantime, Shadow Police Minister Brad Battin has launched an online petition, calling for the Victorians to pressure the state government to reverse the decision to allow treatment to go ahead.
He said it was time for the government to put victims first.
“This is a disgrace,” he said.
“The right to IVF should have been lost when she took the life of another over $50 with a four year old present in the house.”
