A woman is recovering after being attacked during a home invasion at Tarneit.
Police believe up to four men armed with a gun, hammer and weapons got into the Mintarra Road home in the early hours of Tuesday.
A shot was fied into the ceiling.
A 45-year-old woman suffered upper body injuries after reportedly being struck with a hammer.
She was taken to hospital.
Another woman suffered minor injuries while four other women in the house at the time were not physically injured.
Police believe the offenders took off in a blue Volkswagon, which was later found dumped and torched in Werribee.
Investigations are continuing, but officers believe it was a targeted incident.
