Punters and fashionistas heading to today’s Geelong Cup will be met by protesters outside the racecourse.
Up to 10,000 people are expected to flock to the Geelong Racecourse for the running of the Group Three race this afternoon.
However Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses and the Animal Justice Party will be outside the venue from 11.30am.
Elio Celotto from the Coalition said the Nup to the Cup campaign was urging people to think about what happened behind the scenes at racing.
“Three horses are killed on our racetracks every week in Australia,” he said.
“We see thousands more killed around Australia (each year) off the race track.”
Mr Celotto said people could still have fun without horses being involved.
“We’re not against people having fun, there’s nothing wrong with having a great time
“But it shouldn’t be an the expense of innocent animals.”
