The state government has announced plans to rebuild the damaged building at Northern Bay College’s Hendy street P-8 campus.

The announcement came from Education Minister and Deputy Premier Ben Carroll and Member for Lara Ella George, who toured the school and saw demolition underway on the damaged building.

“An architect will be appointed, we will rebuild the school campus and make sure that this wonderful school community can thrive for decades to come,” Mr Carroll said.

“So the architect will give us all the costings and plans and we’ll get on with it.

“I’ll work very closely with Ella George who has been a great advocate for this school community.”

In the aftermath of the fire, capacity constraints forced Year 7 and 8 students relocated to the Peacock Street campus but they have since returned to Hendy Street, with three one-site portable learning buildings.

“It’s fantastic that the whole school community is now back at Hendy street and I’m really looking forward to seeing a great new school facility that this community deserves,” Ms George said.

Demolition of the old site is expected to take around 3 weeks, with the design to be released once an architect is appointed early in the new year.
