Rise in illegal cigarette sales

A new report has shown the number of shops selling illegal cigarettes in Victoria is rapidly rising.

The Herald Sun reporting over one-thousand shops have been busted since March 2023 for cigarettes – vapes and pouches.

The data shows shops in Norlane (8), Corio (5), Leopold (4), Geelong (2), Lara (2), Ocean Grove (2), Bell Park (1), North Geelong (1), Herne Hill (1), Geelong West (1), East Geelong (1), Highton (1), Whittington (1), Drysdale (1), Jan Juc (1) were all caught with illegal tobacco products.

Neighbouring areas including Werribee (2), Whyndham Vale (1) and Colac (5) were also caught.

Several shops across Geelong and Wyndham were searched in October last year with multiple arrests.
