Roundball rolling to Mildura for juniors

A big long weekend awaits for some of the regions most talented juniors.

More than one-hundred junior soccer players from Geelong will be heading to Mildura this weekend for the annual country championships.

Mike McKinstry from Football Geelong says there’ll be seven teams heading to the event.

“These are the best kids in our community leagues,” he said.

“We had well over 300 kids put their hands up for the opportunity to head to these country championships, and we are really excited for this group of players.”

Regions including Mildura, Ballarat, Bendigo, South West, Albury and the LaTrobe Valley will be involved in the event.

McKinstry says says the numbers of locals participating is only continuing to grow in recent years.

“We’ve been really lucky as an organisation,” he said.

“We’ve had more than 100 kids take part at every one of the championships, and those numbers are continuing to grow.

“We’re really excited to see them play and hopefully have a lot of success as a region.”
