Security increased for Avalon Airshow

Avalon Airshow preparations are underway with security ramped up after protest concerns.

The Herald Sun has reported pro-Palestine supporters have organised a blockade on Wednesday’s trade day.

Shadow Minister for Police David Southwick said he doesn’t want to see a repeat of protests at Land Forces last year.

“There should be absolutely a hardline approach when you have these individuals that are trying to shut down these events and compromise the safety of Victorians.

“It should be a family-friendly event that we enjoy, everyone loves the Airshow.”

Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj said manufacturing is in the DNA of Geelong, calling the region the ideal location to set up the defence sector.

“It’s massive, not only for the tourism, but also for the opportunities of showcasing Geelong as a place to set up the international defence industry to create jobs, particularly in the northern suburbs were they’re most needed.”

It comes after Corio MP and Deputy PM Richard Marles’ office was targeted by anti-war graffiti last week.
