Police say Highway Patrol members clocked the 27-year-old driving at 154km/h in the 100-zone at around 9.15 pm.
The man reportedly told police he was speeding after “a bad day at work”.
“His ‘bad day’ certainly got a lot worse when he watched his vehicle being loaded on the back of a tow truck,” a Police spokesperson said.
“It was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $995 due to driving at an excessive speed.
“He will appear at the Werribee Magistrates Court later in the year to face his excessive speed charge.
“Speed is a major contributor to road trauma and our road toll, please slow down and arrive alive.”
