State pleads guilty over school safety failure

The state government has pleaded guilty to failing to provide a safe work environment at a local school.

The state facing court yesterday in Geelong over an incident where a teacher at Armstrong Creek school was unable to use an emergency phone in their classroom in May of 2022 as the phone was inaccessible.

The teacher was then required to use their personal phone in order to call for assistance.

The state hit with a fine of $25,000, as well as a series of costs taking the total to more than $30,000.

A second charge was struck off after the state pleaded guilty to an initial charge relating to the incident.
