Storms soil bay waters

Stormwater entering the bay is impacting water quality (GEELONG COUNCIL).

Heavy rainfall has soiled many of our local swimming spots, with the EPA listing as Poor bay beaches between Queenscliff and St Leonards.

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is warning people that all beaches around Corio and Port Phillip Bay are not suitable for swimming, with the exception of Queenscliff and Portsea.

The beaches near the heads to the bay are listed as Fair, carrying a caution they may not be suitable for swimming.

The EPA forecasts water quality for 36 beaches in the bay, and urgest people to avoid swimming near stormwater or river outlets within 24-48 hours after rain.

Seperately the City of Greater Geelong has announced the reopening of the children’s pool at Eastern Beach, closed yesterday for repair works.
