Suspicious blaze near Barwon River

A fire by the Barwon River has been declared suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Deviation Road, Newtown around 4.20am Friday.

Additional tankers were called in to help tackle the 40 by 30 metre blaze.

Crews brought the fire under control in about an hour.

The scene then handed over to police, with the blaze deemed suspicious.
