Two people have been arrested over an alleged break-in at the home of a woman whose body was found dumped in a wheelie bin near Geelong.
Police say the Point Cook house where Chaithanya Madhagani lived with her husband and young son, was burgled four days after the gruesome discovery on a property at Buckley on Saturday March 9.
Detectives arrested a man and woman on Kiely Avenue, Werribee, on the same day as the alleged break-in.
A 32-year-old man from Werribee has been remanded in custody on charges of burglary and car theft, and will face court next month.
A 32-year-old woman, also from Werribee, was released without charge pending further inquiries.
At this stage detectives do not believe the burglary is linked to Ms Madhagani’s death.
It’s understood a car allegedly stolen during the burglary has since been recovered.
Ms Madhagani’s husband, Ashok Raj Varikuppala, is alleged to have fled to India following his wife’s death, reportedly confessing to Ms Madhagani’s father that he suffocated his wife during an argument.
He left his son with is in-laws, telling them he planned to return to Australia to hand himself in.
He has not been seen since.
