Two men have been injured in a stabbing at Newtown. one of at least two violent incidents that have marred Geelong’s New Years’ celebrations.
Police allege a man got into an argument with the two victims at the corner of Mervyn and Stanley Streets just before 10pm on Sunday night.
One of the wounded men was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 27-year-old man from Newtown was arrested at the scene.
Early Monday morning he was still being interviewed.
Five hours later a woman was seriously injured when she was assaulted during what is believed to have been a home invasion at Grovedale.
A 20-year-old man is assisting police with their investigation into that incident.
