Werribee by-election result still undecided

A winner in the Werribee by-election could be known this evening.

The Victorian Electoral Commission is still counting postal votes following Saturday’s vote.

Labor candidate John Lister is leading Liberal Steve Murphy on a two-party basis, 50.55 per cent to 49.45 per cent.

The by-election was held following the retirement of Treasurer Tim Pallas.

Senior Minister Gabrielle Williams admitted it had been a nervous wait.

“We’re always eager to get the results,” she said.

“I know there’ll be great anticipation and nervousness across all sides.

“We’re being as patient as possible in allowing the VEC and our many scrutineers to get the process done and confirmed as soon as they can.”
