Areas around 13th beach will be temporarily closed from this morning as the whale carcass is removed.
DEECA has backed down on a previous decision to leave the whale to decompose, now planning to remove it.
It follows community backlash over the decision.
A petition had been filed that had close to 2500 signatures for the whale’s removal, saying it was not only impacting beachgoers, but also putting people off visiting the area.
A warning remains in place for locals to avoid the waters on the beach due to concerns of shark sightings.
DEECA said it would continue to update locals on when the water will be safe to return to.
The process to remove the whale will begin today, with the carcass to be moved to a different section of the beach which is easier for machines to access in order to remove it.
