The father of a Point Cook woman whose body was found in a wheelie bin near Geelong says his son-in-law confessed to killing her during an argument.
Chaithanya “Swetha” Madhagani’s father Kumar Reddy reportedly told the Herald Sun his son-in-law, Ashok Raj Varikuppala, arrived at his home in India last weekend with Mr Reddy’s young grandson in tow.
He said when he answered the door Mr Varikuppala began weeping and fell to his knees, saying that he had accidentally suffocated his wife with his hand while the couple were arguing.
Mr Reddy told the paper his son-in-law asked him to care for his 4-year-old son, and that he was returning to Australia to hand himself in.
He has not been seen or heard from since.
Ms Madhagani’s body was discovered in a wheelie bin on a dusty roadside at Buckley, 25km south-west of Geelong, on Saturday.
A Go-Fund-Me page set up to help Ms Madhagani’s family fly her body home to India had raised almost $14,000 by Thursday morning.
“Chaitanya was an amazing woman and even a better mom is what she is best known for,” the page reads.
“She has a heart of gold and touched everyone’s hearts she met. There was never a dull moment in her presence.”
