Thousands of people remain without power across Geelong, as Powercor works to restore electricity following wild winds overnight.

As of 2.30pm on Monday, 2,571 customers were still without supply, with Powercor setting up a mobile emergency response vehicle to the St Albans Football and Netball Ground in Thomson.

Crews said they are still finding different faults across the region with strong winds continuing.

“We have deployed extra crews and have cancelled planned outages to allow us to focus on restoration work,” a Powercor spokesperson said.

“We expect to restore power to most customers later today, however due to the volume of faults there will be some customers without power into tomorrow.”

The Bureau of Meteorology said while the weather will calm down over the next 24 hours, we’re still expecting some windy conditions throughout the week.

“The good news is we see a return to a more pleasant day (on Tuesday), however there are two more weather systems crossing the state,” Senior Forecaster Kevin Parkyn said.

“One on Wednesday, we’re not expecting to issue any severe weather warning for that.

“There will be a pick-up in the wind but not anything like what we’ve had.

“And then our eye focuses in on the weather system on Friday.”

A severe weather warning for damaging winds is still in place as the BOM released its updated forecast on Monday afternoon.

Tuesday in Geelong is set to be partly cloudy with a top of 17 degrees, with winds westerly 15 to 25 km/h becoming light in the early afternoon.
