Geelong Amateur will rush former Oscar Brownless into its team for Saturday’s clash with Portarlington after landing the signature of the Ammos junior.

K rock Football’s Beyond the Boundary podcast first reported the potential of Brownless returning to KFC Oval yesterday (Wednesday)

Brownless, who spent three years on Geelong’s AFL list without playing a senior game, hasn’t taken to the field since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the second round of the 2022 SANFL season while playing for West Adelaide.

He is part of the coaching staff at Melbourne school Xavier College and spent time filming the television The Amazing Race alongside his dad, former Cats star Billy, in the first half of the year.

“We’ve been in chats with Oscar on and off for a while now,” Amateur co-coach Riley Kershaw said.

“We were hoping to get him a little earlier in the year when time permitted with his APS commitments.

“But, it didn’t work out that way; obviously, he had some other commitments at the time.

Kershaw is confident that despite his lack of football over the past couple of years, he will be able to have an impact.

“Seeing him training this week, he looked very comfortable,” Kershaw said.

“But getting Ammos junior back to the footy club is what local footy is all about at the moment.

“It’s great to get someone of Oscar’s calibre back through the doors.”

Kershaw is hopeful that Brownless will play five or six of the remaining seven games, which would comfortably qualify him for the finals if Geelong Amateur can claim a top-five finish.

“That’s the plan; whatever his APS commitment allows,” Kershaw said.

Kershaw also confirmed that former St Mary’s player Luke Hillier, who joined the club during the week, would also play in the senior team against the Demons.

Star midfielders Tom Gribble and Blake Sutterby have also been named.
