Queenscliff has beaten several rival clubs for the signature of one-time Ballarat League leading goalkicker Izaac Grant.

Grant, who spent two seasons with Talent League outfit GWV Rebels, arrives at the Coutas from home club Hepburn in the Central Highlands League.

He kicked 107 goals from 40 games at Redan, with his 55 majors in 2023 good enough to top the competition.

Grant won two best-and-fairest awards and captained the Ballarat League’s under-23 team.

“We got word that Izaac may have been on the move to Geelong – and I think a few other clubs did too,” Queenscliff coach Heath Jamieson said.

“We did a bit of a background check on him as a person, and that was a big tick.

“And as a player, he’s something we love. We think he’s a bit of an excitement machine.”

Grant, whose partner Emma plays netball with Queenscliff, still managed to kick 29 goals from 15 games despite spending more time in the midfield at Hepburn.”

“Those small-type forwards/midfielders that can score are pretty important to the way we play,” Jamieson said.

“We think he will step in and be really valuable for us.

“We play a style that suits a high-scoring game, and I think Izaac’s repertoire fits in well with that.”

The addition of Grant follows Queenscliff announcing on social media last week that it had re-signed its 2024 list for next year.

“When I came on board last year, I think at this time, we didn’t have a player signed,” Jamieson said.

“We had to work pretty hard to get our list signed away.

“We’re pretty targeted with our recruiting; we’ve sat down with a few players we think will come in and make a difference.

“But, we’re not going overboard. We want to make sure there are games available for Queenscliff players, and we want to work really hard on them.

“We also realise we need to bring some talent in to complement that.”
