A mouth-watering Anzac Day matchup between 2024 grand finalists Anglesea and Torquay highlights next year’s Bellarine Football Netball League fixture.
In recent years, the Roos and Tigers have been keen to play on April 25, joining Drysdale and Portarlington, who started their now-traditional meeting in 2009.
Torquay claimed consecutive premierships for the first time since 1989 in beating Anglesea, which was featuring its first decider since 2000, by 62 points.
Newcomb had hoped to be part of the Anzac Day slate of matches to mark its 50th year.
However, the Power will instead face Ocean Grove the following day.
Torquay will feature in one of two Good Friday matches when they host Barwon Heads at McCartney Oval.
The building tradition of Modewarre and Geelong Amateur meeting on the Christian Holy Day will also continue.
Torquay will commence its quest for a first hat-trick of Bellarine premierships when it hosts Ammos in Round 1 (April 5).
The clash will mark former Richmond and Western Bulldogs player Sam Lloyd’s first match as co-coach of the visitors.
In other opening-round matchups, preliminary finalists Drysdale face Anglesea, Modewarre meets Ocean Grove, and Newcomb battles Queenscliff.
Newly-appointed Portarlington coach Darren Findlay faces a trip to Barwon Heads and the newly-named APCO Cafe 24/7 Oval to commence his tenure.
Byes have been scheduled for May 17 and July 12, with the grand final to be played a week later than recent history on Saturday, 13 September.
It’s likely to be the last year of 10-team fixture that has been in place since Modewarre joined the competition in 1996, with Surf Coast set to expand the BFNL to 11 clubs for the first time in 2026.
The GFNL fixture is due to be released tomorrow (Friday).
